New to Golf? Start Here
Beedles Lake was founded on a pay and play ethos, to bring golf within the reach of everyone, and you do not need to be a member to start. Everything a beginner needs is here in one place: a covered, floodlit driving range, two golf instructors in the pro shop, the 9-hole Little Owl par 3 course and Pay & Play membership. Here is how to get started.
1. Hit some balls at the driving range
The driving range has 18 covered, floodlit bays and is open 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 7pm at weekends. A basket of 15 balls costs £1.75, paid by contactless card at the ball dispenser, and you can hire clubs.
2. Book a lesson
Establishing the correct swing fundamentals from the start is of paramount importance if your golf is to flourish. Book a lesson with Head PGA Professional Sean Byrne or Marcus Spiesser through the pro shop on 0116 260 6759 (ext 1). Ladies can join our introductory beginners’ course, which runs over a number of weeks from January, and juniors get 20% off individual lessons. See golf lessons.
3. Play the Little Owl
The Little Owl is our 9-hole par 3 course, an excellent introduction for beginners and families. Its holes run from 95 to 156 yards. Adults pay £15 for 9 holes in summer and £10 in winter, and juniors under 16 pay £10 in summer and £8 in winter.
4. Step up to the 18-hole course
When you feel ready, visitors can book the 18-hole course online. Nine holes costs £18 on a summer weekday, and twilight golf after 6pm costs the same. See all green fees.
5. Become a member
Pay & Play membership costs £280 (7 Day) or £185 (5 Day), then a reduced green fee each time you play: £17 on a weekday, and £20 at the weekend with 7 Day Pay & Play. There is also Little Owl only membership, a 3-month trial for ladies, and full membership. See membership.
What to wear
On the course, wear trousers or tailored shorts. Tracksuits, football, rugby or cricket tops and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. See the dress code.
